Barrington Guest House offer an ecotourism based holiday for all types of guests or visitors. From the youngest child feeding their first possum, to the most mature senior citizen who can only watch the wildlife from the verandah, we find that we can satisfy most people.
Indeed ecotourism should be defined as any environmental experience and not necessarily intensive interaction such as hiking or rock climbing.
During a weeks activity at the Guest House, people of all ages, fitness and environmental requirements, can do some or all of the following:
Venture no further than the verandah to interact with a number different wildlife species, in fact some animals will enter guest rooms and the dining room.
Learn more or conduct research by perusing our large environmental reference library.
Conduct a five minute walk to swim in the river or take a lunch to do their own walking from 5 minutes, to all day.
Participate in a ½ day outing comprising a bus trip via a lookout with interpretations of the view (Koalas regularly observed from the bus) plus a short guided 800m educational rainforest walk with discussions pertaining to conservation, ecology, bush tucker and "what tree is that" plus a billy morning tea before returning for lunch.
Undertake a guided night spotlight walk around the house grounds where up to a dozen species of nocturnal rainforest animals can be observed at close range (particularly the Pademelons, Bandicoots and Greater Gliders which frequent the area). This walk is never more than five minutes from the House so again all guests can generally participate.
Walk to Careys Peak, the "Top of the Tops", which is 6 hours of walking, climbing, and falling 1000m over 22kms. This is of course for more experienced walkers but the "average" guest who wishes to do it can accomplish this. Guests are guided up by a local naturalist who conveys information and answers questions as the walk progresses.
Participate in a picnic day, visiting Chichester Dam and playing "backyard cricket" in the bush, with a picnic lunch break. This outing undertakes a beautiful scenic drive and only optional walking - again people of all "standards" enjoy the outing.
Opportunities for Tennis, horse rides, magnificent swimming and walking.
Daily hand feeding of Kangaroos, Crimson Rosellas and Possums.
Nightly entertainment includes dancing, quiz games and spotlight walks.
At other times (i.e. school holidays) and where there is a demand, we conduct other outings to maintain a variety of activities for our regular guests.
